Harmony Exercise #1

This exercise is really a simple tune that demonstrates what some of the most common harmonies sound like. You play the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 2nd degrees of the scale against the piano accompaniment, which is playing the major chords (root, thirds, and fifths).

This gives you the opportunity to learn these important harmonies so you can become familiar with what they sound like, and get a feel for when to use them (for example, 9ths are important in a lot of jazz melodies).

This one moves slowly, it's basically a long tone exercise. After you repeat the phrase once, it shifts up to another key, so you can also learn those harmonies. Be sure to listen as you play!

First, Select the Sheet Music for Your Instrument,
then, get the Accompaniment
