Considered one of the more complex and demanding of Hindemith's works, this landmark trumpet piece is a challenge for any trumpeter (or pianist, for that matter!)
The opening theme is a rich and moody line, with dramatic, clashing piano chords. The second section is more of a march-like theme, not quite as moody but interesting chromatically nonetheless. The third part returns to more dramatic, moody lines, ending with a deceptively simple closing theme.
