This solo piece starts off with a moderately paced Prelude that smoothly and creatively segues into repeats of its basic theme. Then it moves into a faster and much higher Caprice section which will challenge the flutist. After that, it moves to Intermezzo, Lament, and Arioso, all inventive and interesting without being as aggressive as many solo pieces. Overall this is a powerful piece that lets the flutist perform in a variety of tone colors and moods.
